Description

Windows XP was released to the public on October 25, 2001, the first two versions released by the company were Home and Professional. The Home version was targeted to home PC users, while the Professional version was designed for business and professionals. Prior to Windows 7 market dominance, Windows XP was the most widely used desktop operating system in the world for many years.

Installation instructions for PC / VMware / VirtualBox

Starting installer in PC (via USB)

Follow the steps given below:

  1. Download the Windows XP ISO image file from the download section.
  2. Install a USB bootable creation software (such as Rufus) on your Windows computer.
  3. Plug in a USB flash drive (at least 4-8 GB of space) with your computer.
  4. Open the USB bootable creation software, and select the ISO image file of Windows XP, and start the process.
  5. As soon as done, plug the bootable USB into a system where you want to install Windows XP.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. Press the boot device menu key and select USB to boot first.
  8. Select USB device and start the Windows XP installer.

Starting installer in VMware

  1. Download the Windows XP ISO image file from the download section.
  2. Launch the VMware Player, and start creating a new virtual machine.
  3. Select the ISO image file of Windows XP, and use the default settings for the virtual machine.
  4. Start the virtual machine and go to the Windows XP installer.

Starting installer in VirtualBox

  1. Download the Windows XP ISO image file from the download section.
  2. Launch the Virtualbox application on your computer, and start creating a new virtual machine.
  3. Select Windows XP (32-bit) and use defualt settings for the virtual machine.
  4. Start VM and when it asks to select the Host Drive, then select the downloaded Windows XP ISO file in step 1.

Last step

As soon as you go to the Windows XP setup screen, follow the steps given below:

  1. Press Enter, and accept the licensing agreement with the F8 key.
  2. Press Enter on the Unpartitioned Space and format the partition using the NTFS file system.
  3. Wait while Windows XP setup is in progress.
  4. The system will restart between the installer, do not press any key at that time.
  5. After the restart, follow the on-screen instructions and provide the necessary information.
  6. As soon as you go to the Windows XP desktop screen, remove the bootable USB from the system, or remove the Windows XP ISO from the virtual machine.

  2. In the Name box, type Windows XP and click on the Next button.

  4. Create a Virtual Hard disk, select VDI and then Dynamic Allocated. After that set the size around 10 GB.
  5. Select the created Windows XP virtual machine and click on the Setting icon given in Virtual Box menu.
  6. Click on Storage option from the right side and then select EmptyCD drive after that again click on the CD icon given on the extreme right side and choose Virtual Optical Disk file option. The explorer will open, select the downloaded Windows XP ISO image and then click on the OK button.
